HINCKLEE FAILS TO QUALIFY.

A Baltimore .message stales that Britain's .so-called "mystery sea-; plane," the Supermarinc Napier 54,: was completely wrecked. A series of. wing'flutters .anil side slips, during the .preliminary navigability ■ trial in connection with the Jacques-Schneider ■lntoni;itioii:il Sea.piane trophy, led to a noso dive into Chesepeake Bay, after whicli the machine turned over, fl'liu ; pilot, Captain Henry Baird, wearing a lifebelt, cleared the wreckage, as it sank. A brother pilot, Captain .Hubert Broad, tossed a second lifebelt from his machine, after which a patrol boat rescued Captain Baird, who was dazed and unable to explain the occurrence. Captain Baird is in bod, and the doctors fear that he has pneumonia, lie had been ill for several days, and only left his bed daily to fly for a few minutes.
VANCOUVEB, 24th October.
