NOT VERY SECURE

ARMIES IN MOROCCO

VIGOROUS RIFF ATTACKS

SPANIARDS UNCOMFORTABLE AT ALHUCEMAS.

(UNITED MESS ASSOCIATIOS-COPTniailT.)

(SYDNEX SON CAIitE.) (Received 24th October, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 23rd October Eeports from Gibraltar indicate that the position of the Spaniards at Melilla and the French on the Eastern front is not so secure as it has been represented. .

_ Official accounts state that near the junction of the French and Spanish forces on the eastern front, the I'rcneh lost four complete batteries as the result of a determined Biff at--tack. The position would have been serious but that a Spanish air squadron recaptured three guns. A Spanish outpost at Alhucemas was attacked by Biffs dressed in the uniform of Spanish native troops, ■the garrison of forty.six foreign legionaries was holding a concert at the time, aud, taken completely by surprise, all were killed with the exception of a lieutenant. The Spanish losses round Alhucemas are reported as roughly a thousand.

The Biffs are undoubtedly awaiting the "Levanter" gale, which will prevent support from the sea, before attacking Alhucemas, where the Spaniards have no second line.
