An endeavour is being mado by the club to hold the 18ft and under races before and after the Sanders Cup contest, so that Wellington representative may not be penalised by losing points. During the Christmas holidays, the annual race in the Sounds in Ngakuta Bay will again be held on' the generous invitation of Mr. Mark Steeds and Messrs. Thomson Bros., of Chris tehurch. Notes from Evans Bay. * Mr. A. J. Ibbotson has resigned from tho Commodoreship of the E.8.Y.M.8.0. after many years' service, having been one of the prime movers in. its formation.. Ho will'ho tendered a complimentary evening on 29th October. The position of commodore will be taken by Mr. Cheeseman, a" well-known yachtsman. Nearly all the boats are ready for their final coat of paint, and will bo in the water in plenty of time for the opening on 28th November. Trixie, one of the launches, was recently painted, but a deluge of rain came down immediately afterwards. > and gave her a somewhat Futuristic appearance by running the colours to-, gethcr. Bad weather has spoilt a lot of painting in this way. ■The"'club is trying to wipe out £150 ■still owing on the clubhouse this year by holding bazaars and art unions. The clearance of the debt should-help .the club considerably in. its activities. Mr. Lcs. .Miller is now secretary in place of Mr. I\, Martin, who has retired to embark on the sea of matrimony. ."Mainsail" wishes Mr. Martin a smooth voyage. A Champion for-Sale. Otago's champion 14-footer lona, which won the Sanders and Lipton Cups at Auckland early this year, is for -sale,, according to a message received from Dunedin. In the "Otago Daily Times," the yachting writer, "Rudder'," says: — The news will come as a surprise to many boating men, as all those connected with the sport were hoping that Mr. Hunter would again be in the proud position of winning the coveted trophy on Otago Harbour in February neitt. When conversing with Mr. Hunter last week "Rudder" tried to induce him to remain the owner of the boat until after the next Sanders Cup contest. It is a pity he has decided to sell the little champion, as everyone concerned would like to see Mr. Wiseman at the helm this season, especially if lona is chosen to represent the province. It is to be hoped that the boat will not leave Otago at the present juncture, as every boating man and all those interested in the sport are looking, forward to seeing lona competing • in, the trial races this season. The new set: of English sails ordered from England by Mr. Hunter ,aro expected to come to hand within tho nextfew days, so that lona will be in firstclass racing trim when the trials commence on 31st October. Tho boat is not likely to leave the province, as there aro a number, of prospective boat-buyers. Notes. ' ' ' Mr. M. Beck's big cruiser Sail Luis, which was formerly well-known in Wellington, and which was taken up to Auckland some time ago, is reported to have changed hands, and is to 'be put into commission by several prominent Aucklanders this season. "Speedwell," in tho "Auckland Star," says that Alec Matthews will probably take it rest from 14-footer racing this season. In that case, his successor at the helm of Queen March will most likely he "Vie. Lklgard One of Auckland's most modern launches is Mr. A. H. Court's 43-footer, which is Hearing completion. She will be equipped, with twin engines, each of four cylinders, and developing 75 h.p. at moderate revolutions. In all probability her owner will visit Dunedin in his new boat early next year. In a full-sail breeze on Saturday afternoon, the three 14-footers Peggy, All Black, und Wellesley staged an impromptu race once round the Cup trial course. Positions changed during tha race, but the conclusion saw Peggy cross the line, with A. G. Crawford at the tiller, about half a minute ahead of All Black. Wellesley was only two seconds away, third. These three boats are Wellington's aspirants for the Sanders Cup I rials, and from what was seen on Satj urdiiy, they nrb likely, to provide exciting racing. Smart in lliuir new siiils. all three will bo at their best, and given good conditions, there should be little between Ilium in the trials. Colonel Essen's Wylo went down during last week-end to join'the rapidly-in-crfliisiiig fleet of yachts which arc ready for (he opening of the U.P.N.Y.C.'s season on 14th November. 'My. \i. Chirko's big cruiser Mining! is vcmly for Uw wafer, except for a few sheets of. copper which him; yd, to bepliicrd on her hull.

. Mr. \V. .R. "Waters was appointed president of tho Otago Yacht, aiv.l Motor-boat Association at the annual juesUiig this week, ' """' -•-•--•
