LABOUR'S LAND POLICY

AN EXPLANATION BY MB.

HOLLAND.

(BI TELEGRAPH.— MESS ASSOCIATION,}

NAPIER, 23rd October,

Mr. Holland was accorded a good reception by a crowded audience hero to-night. Ho mado reference to' a statement by Mr. Coatcs to the effect that the Labour land policy had been drafted by men inexperienced in land questions, and who did not understand the temper of farming people. Mr. Holland said that at the annual conferences of the Labour Party were some of the ablest farmers in the Dominion, and a number of them wore standing aa Labour candidates. These farmers had a great deal to say in the construction of the land policy of Labour, and understood farming as well as any member of the Reform Party. Mr. Coates had allowed himself to bo led into repeating one of the silly distortions made by anti-Labour papers to the effefct that he (Mr. - Holland) had claimed that Mr. Seddon's mantle had> fallen on himself. No one should know bet-

tor than Mr. Coatcs that ho had never said anything of the kind. What ho had said was that the Labour Party of to-day was historically, economically, and politically the logical and legi-timate-successor of the movement of the days of Ballanco and Seddon. Mr. Holland's address was on the lines of those in other places. At tho conclusion a motion of thanks and confidence was carried, and cheers were 'given for Labour.
