WELLINGTON EAST
MR. T. FORSYTH SPEAKS AT
NEWTOWN
STABLE GOVERNMENT WANTED,
Mr. T. Forsyth ("Reform candidate for Wellington East) addressed a good meeting at tho Nevvtown Public Library last night. The candidate said that ho had pledged himself, if elected, to support Mr. Coates and the policy ho stood for, because he did not believe in being a rail-sitter, and never had been one. They had in Mr. Coates a young New Zealander, Mia youngest Prime iVlinistcr the country had had, a man who bad proved himself in ths field, in Parliament, in Cabinet, and in tho business and industry of the Dominion—a leader of whom they had a right to be proud.
The Liberals, too, had been prepared to follow Mr. Coates. Hence the talk of fusion at the beginning of last session. He believed in the two-party system, not in tho unstable three-party system ; and he was of opinion that after the election the Reform and the Liberal Parties would come together and form a strong, stable Government. (Applause, Labour jeers, and laughter.) There was very little difference of policy between the two parties; and they colild and -should come together for the good of the Dominion and the Empire. Labour had a big programme, but an utterly impracticable one; whereas Mr. Coates's programme', with which the Liberal Party was so largely in agreement, "was a sound and practical one, aiming at the good of the whole community. (Applause and laughter.) A vote.of thanks and confidence was accorded the candidate.
