MONTHLY MEETING OF COUN-

The monthly meeting of the Eastbourne Borough. Council was held last evening, under the ■ chairmanship of the Ma.yor (Mr. H. M. Jones). The following were also present:—Councillors Laing, S. Edilson, H6lmes, H. Black, Jenkinson, Andrews, and H. J. Lovy. Replying to a request" that a slot telephone be installed at or near the entrance to the Eastbourne Ferry Wharf, the Secretary for the Post Office replied that as there is already a public call office at the Lyttelton Ferry Wharf, which is not more than a hundred yards from the proposed site, the request cannot be granted at present. The matter will, however, be further considered when provision has been made for the installation of a number of public call offices which arc more urgently required elsewhere.

The Finance Committee reported that the legal costs in connection with the Supremo Court action to prove ownership of certain laud on tho beach front amounted to £440 2s lOd. Tho committee recommended that a portion of this amount be paid forthwith.

The necessary material having been procured, it is proposo«l;"to start top-dressing the tennis courts immediately, stated a report, three to be done at a time.

Building permits last mouth totalled £;SB7O, including one residence to cost £3000, upon which the ! fees paid amounted £5 15s.

The, Mayor's honorarium was fixed at; ;C7fi -per annum. Six months now due was passed for payment.
