A case of more than usual interest to fanners, involving the/.liability of one farmer for accidents occurring to neighbouring farmers , when they are helping him at harvest time, was heard before the Arbitration Court to-day. It aroße put of an accident at Lowgarth on 12th March, 1925, when a farmer, Eober s t Goulden, was killed by being, struck on the head by the derrick of a hay lift. ■•: Empress Gonlden (widow of deceased) sued Albert Thomas Burke, farmer, of Lowgarth, for £750' compensation.. Plaintiff alleged that sho and two small children wore entirely dependent on her slate husband for support. -On the day of his death he had been working for Burke aa a labourer at 2s per hour. The defence contended that Goulden had not worked for Burke in the capacity of a casual labourer, but as ari independent farmer, working solely on his own account. After hearing legal argument on the question whether deceased was or was not an employed workman, the, Qoxtxi gave judgment tax defendant.
