MASTERTON, 30th August. The Wairarapa High School first fifteen, winners of the Wairarapa third grade competition, defeated Wellington College lirst fifteen by 17 points to nil in a friendly match held hero yesterday. The conditions were bad, the ground being partly covered by" water. WAIPAWA HIGH DEFEATS WELLESLEY. j Waipawa High School and -Wellesley College met at Lyall Bay on Saturday afternoon. The sides were very evenly matched. First blood was scored by Wellesley, Jarman putting the ball over from a penalty. The Waipawa lads handled tho greasy ball well, and a pretty combined movement by the backs saw Pineha score, no goal resulting. A forward rush by Wellesley ended in Welton scoring. Jarman converted, making Wellesley's score 8. A little-later, .a WeUesley forward was penalised for handling in the scrum, and Meha kicked a good goal. The spell ended with the scores : Wellesley 8, Waipawa 6. Iv tho second spell tho visitors gradually wore the»* opponents down. Throe - Maori lads, Pauapa, Pineha, and Mahi, played particularly well for Waipawa, and their consistent work brought victory to their side. A piece of passing.by the backs ended in Pineha scoring his second try. Meha converted, giving Waipawa a win by. 11 points to 8. Mr. A. E. Neilson controlled the game.
