GAMES ELSEWHERE.
CHRISTCHURCH, 30th August. The only Rugby, match played yesterday was that for the Payne Trophy, between tho champion teams of Dunedin and Christchurch, Pirates and Old Boys respectively. The Pirates suffered their first defeat of the season, going down by 18 points to 11, in what was the best game seen at Lancaster Park this year. Tho weather was fine, but after nearly a week's rain the ground was in a bad condition. AUCKLAND, 29th August. To-day's Rugby fixtures resulted as follow :—Pollard Cup competition : Grafton 19, beat Marist 3; Grammar Old, Boys 42, beat - King's Old Boys 3; North Shore 31, 'beat Suburbs 8; College Rifles 10, beat Manukau 8; University 29, beat Newton 6. NAPIER, 30th August. The first round in the Lane Cup knock-but competitions wa3 played 'in Napier and Hastings yesterday, with the following results : Pirates 24, Marists (holders), 14; Celtic 12, Hastings 9; High School Old Boys won by default ,from M.A.C.
