GREENLAND LEFT
MACMILLAN'S RETURN.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPIKIOHT.)
(AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLI ASSOCIATION.) WASHINGTON, 29th August. Commander Macmillan's ghips, the Peary and Bowdoin, are making good headway southward, according to a dispatch to the National Georgraphic Society, which said: "We had a remarkable run across Melville Bay, with a strong, fair wind and.no ice. We left Greenland yesterday, and are off Upernovik, 73 North latitude, and free of all icefields. We should arrive at Diske tomorrow afternoon. The compasses of both the Peary and Bowdoin are very unreliable, due to the removal or shifting of gasalene barrels and the Liberty engines. We shall try to make corrections at Diske. The Peary will proceed to Umanak for coal, and tho Bowdoin to Ededesminde for fuel oiL All well."
The progress of the ships in Melville Bay has been delayed by heavy weather and snowstorms.
