County matches were continued during the past week with the following results :—■ Somerset, playing against Middlesex at Tauntou, in the first innings made 166, T. J. Durston taking six wickets for 33 runs. In the second innings the eleven made 249 (A. Young 53, M. D. Lyon 69), Durston again proving the most dangerous bowler, and taking four for 60, while J. D. Hearne took four for 81. Middlesex in tho first innings made 244 (H. W. Lee 51), J. C. White taking four for 59. In the second innings MifHlesex lost nine wickets for 175 (E. Hendren 59), J. J. Bridges taking four for 54. Middlesex won by one wicket.. Lancashire met Sussex at Brighton, the latter county in the first innings making only 89, E. A. M'Donald taking four wickets for 32 runs, which included the "hat trick," and Sibbles six f>»■ 37. In the second innings Sussex did even worse, scoring only 86, M'Donald again being prominent, and taking six for 36. Lancashire's first innings realised 147, M, W. Tate taking five for 46 and G. Cox four for 37. In the second innings Lancashire lost no wickets for 29 runs, winning by ten wickets. Essex's first innings against Kent at Dover realised 212 (J. Freeman 66, A. C. Russell 71), G. C. Collins taking five wickets for 29 runs, and in the second innings 157, A. P. Freeman being responsible for eight for 80. Kent's first innings totalled 214 (G. J. Bryan 86) ; and in the second innings the side lost one wicket for 156 (H. T. W. Hardinge riot out 68, F. E. Woplley hot out 81). Kent won by nine wickets. Playing for Glamorgan against Warwickshire at Swansea, J. Mercer took six wickets for 31 runs. The match was drawn. Playing for Notts against Worcestershire at Worcester, H. Larwood took five wickets for 25 runs in the first innings and F. Barratt three for 16, and Larwood six for 17 in the second. For Worcestershire, H. O. Rogers took five j for 30. Notts won. i Playing for Leicestershire against Gloucestershire at Gloucester, C. H. Taylor made 100, and G. Geary took six wickets for 92 runs in the first innings , and four for 25 in the second, W. E. Astell taking six for 27 in the final innings. For Gloucestershire, 'C. Parker took seven for U2. Gloucestershire won.
