Mr. Powell Blackmore, in a special cabled account to the " Evening Standard," dealing with the American tennis championships, bestows unstinted praise of Patterson and Hawkes for their victory over W. M. Johnston and C. J. Griffin. " Patterson was simply magnificent on the day," he says, " and is unquestionably the world's greatest doubles piayer. His services outshone Tilden's at their best. Mr. Blackmore thinks that the Australians have a sporting chance of lifting the Davis Cup. Patterson told him that it wa» kit last season of serious tennis, and in future Australia must look to younger players. Patterson states that Anderson has wholly recovered his form, and the Australians are confident, of defeating France next week.
