PULLING FOR THE HORIZON.
Hopeful.—lt was the seoond day that the shipwrecked crew had been adrift in the open boat, and, sad to relate, the hearts of some were beginning to sink. There was ono, however, who refused to bo despondent. He Bang, nearly all the time, and tried to crack jokes with tho chief mate. Suddenly bo jumped nit> in tho Iwat, causing it, to rock frantically. "What's that?" he shouted excitedly. Yjointinsf into the far distance. "Isn't that land over there?" The mate's gaze followed the pointing finger hopefully, hut the light died out of his eyes as he said dejectedly: "No, that's not land. it's only tho horizon." "Well, hang it," said (ho optimist, bending: to his <.>ar, "that's bolter than nothing. Let's pull."
