OPOSSUM SKIN MARKET.
Messrs. Dalgety aud Company, Ltd., report:—We held our first sale of the season on 28th August. Our ottering comprised 3000 skins, drawn chiefly from the 'Wellington, Nelson, and ' Featticrston districts. Buyers from all • the principal fur.buylug houses, also local buyers and 'furriers, wero represented, and the demand was exceptionally keen for nil descriptions. Considering the quality of the skins submitted, trappers who forwarded skins to us for sale must bo gratified at the prices realised. Blues and greys were most eagerly sought after, and for a lino of super blues from the Wliakatiki district wo secured the exceptional price of 23s per skin, equalling the top prices of the Dunediu salcq. Our super blacks brought 15s Srt, an advance of 2d per skin on tlie Southeru sales. From the commencement of the season wo have impressed upon trapper;) that the only way to pet full market value Is to sell skins at auction. This season prlvato buying lias depleted our offerings somewhat and tempting prices havo been paid, but the prices realised by us at to-day's 6alo will convince. trappers that auction prices, on the average per skin, are higher. Tlio following is the. range' of prii'es per skin: —Super blues, 2.15; lirst blues, JOs Oil to ISs 3d; blues, Us Jtl to 10s id; super greys, l.^i's 6cl ;• lirst greys, 13s to Us 7d; greys', 8a Od to .(Is lid; super blacks, Jus Sd; first blacks..loa Id to 13s 9d; blacks tanned,'22a Id; blacks, 8s Id; super browns, 12s 7d; first browns, Us ltld to 10s 4d; browns, 7s Sd to 8s Ud; slate*;, 7s; kittens, Cs; reds, 7s lid to 8s Id; bush rats, blue aud grey, 3d to Ib.
The New Zealand loan and Mercantile Company's prices for opossum skins were as follow:—Super tilucs, 18s 7d to 235; flrst blues, IBs Bel to 18s 3d; second blues, 13s dil to 1.1s; super greys, 17s; first greys, 13s to ir,a; seco.nrl greys, 10s to 13s; nupir blacks. 18s ]ld to 13s 8d: first tilacka, 11s !id to 13s Od; second blacks. 7s 7d to 'Ja Sri; Kiipcr lirowns, JOs 3d to 1?s Til; first browns, Us Td to 10s; serond browns, 7s to as fid; supnr reds. 11s; first reda, Ss Od to 10s id; sccoud reds, "s 9d.
