The Dnnedin Oity Corporation's highway loan of £80,000 was fully subscribed in seven weelrs.
The. annual report of the Immigration Department states that 'the total number of arrivals in New Zealand from the United Kingdom and Ireland during the year ended 31st March, was 12,451 (6733 males and 5718 females). Out of the total number arriving 8924 were assisted to New Zealand by tho Imperial and Dominion Governments.
A colourful little party of Indians arrived at Auckland from Sydney "by the Moevaki oil Tuesday. Thero were ten altogether, some being women and girls dressed in voluminous trousers of the harem type, and flowing draperies. The men, who appeared to be of a somewhat higher castn than usual, were-well dressed, and Ihcre appeared to lin an air of prospeniy about the group. In addition to the Indians, the vessel brought sis Jugoslavs, two Dalmatians, and one Chinwe.
