STAR BOATING CLUB
59TH ANNUAL EEPOET. Tho fifty-ninth annual meeting of the Star Boating Club was held last evening in the clubhouse, Mr. A. D. Ba^.feild, vice-president, being in tho chair.' In moving tho adoption of the report and balance-sheet, details of which have been published, Mr. Bayf'eild referred to the subject of regatta crews, and emphasised the primary necessity of efficiency in club races. He urged that members should take a keener interest m training, and said that a member had to become a proficient oarsman before he could hope for a seat in a regatta crew. He explained that the apparently dismal state of the club's finances was due to the great number of outstanding subscriptions, amounting, to £134 4s 3d. Referring to the prospects of amateur rowing throughout New Zealand, the chairman spoke in eulogistic terms of the recent success of the intercolonial regattas, and said that an invitation had already been, issued by the Melbourne Association to send a New Zealand Olub four, to compete in the challenge fours there. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Three new members were elected. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted as follows : President, Sir Francis 'Boll; vice-president, Mr. A: D. Bayfeild; captain, Mr. R. N. Wiikelin; deputy-captain, Mr. W. G. Shorland; general committee, Messrs. A. Mill ward, E, L. Evatt, M. A. Turner, F. G. Oborn (senior members), M. Haldano, D. Newton ,F. B. Anyon, P. Hereford, A. Whitaker, J. M. Johns; club house committee, Messrs. B. W. Johns, J. D. M'Kinley, G. C. Cooke, P. Hereford, B. Woodcock; club race committee, Messrs. D. Newton, G. 0. Cooke, M. Haldane; club match committee,' Messrs. R. N. Wakelin, W. P. Shorland, and H. H. M'Loan; hon. auditors, Messrs. A. E. Richards and W. H. Morrah; secretary, Mr. H. •H. M'Lean; treasurer, Mr. H. R. Herd; trustees, Sir Francis D. Bell and Messrs. C. A. Knapp and A d& B. Brandon. The club will celebrate its diamond jubilee thi3 season; and a special committee is to be appointed to draw up a schedule of appropriate social functions. For use during the coming season there will be two new boats and new oars to the value of £100. It was decided to recommend to the W.A.R.A. that the opening of the season take place on the first Saturday in October.
