pJFFICULT; NEQOIIATIONS,

' (POTTED mil ASSOCIATION—COnBtOHT.} (AUSTRAUAH-NBW 2BAUTO CUU ASSOCIATION.) .

LONDON, 26th August.

The longer the debt discussions continue"'tho more obvious it becomes that the British and American settlements hang together. • ,

The "Daily, Telegraph's 5' diplomatic correspondent hints that some means may be found of co-ordinating them. In the meantime a new British minimum of fourteen millions

is mentioned.

The correspondent states that Mr. Churchill would rather have this sum frota France direct than twelve millions direct, plus sis millions noni-1 inal from the Dawes Plan. M. Caillaux, however, felt that he was quite ; unable to agree, and showed feelings of despondency which were not dispelled by having luncheon and a talk with Mr. Houghton (the United States .Ambassador) and Mr. Cham- ■ berlain.

The French' Minister contemplated going to Paris this morning, but changed his mind, although, concludes the correspondent, any British concession below fourteen millions would seem incredible. . .
