THE WELCOME STRANGER
A good .story is told, apropos shortwave transmission, about an American operator in one of the American warships, an ex-amateur, who was attracted to a Wellington resident's house by the sight of the fine aerial that dominated the scenery. From the details of the occurrence in its original- form there seems to be a hint of 2XA about this tale. Ho asked to be allowed to call up his home ■at Santa Monica, on the coast of California. This was a 38----metre effort, and he got an answer at once. He found that his sister was at. the other key, and she declared that she knew him at once, by recognising Ms "fist." Once again the innumerable links of radio were exemplified; the stranger was no stranger to the house he was in; the owner had also heard his "fist" many a time before.
