CROSS-COUNTRY
NEW ZE.ALANDERS' FOPvM.
Among the members of the New Zealand team to take part in the crosscountry championship of Australia and New Zealand over a course at the Hutt Park on Saturday next are E. J. Heffer and R. A. Rose, of the Wairarapa. These two distance runners are reported to be in excellent form, and ran exceptionally well over a ten-mile course at Masterton last Saturday. A report from Masterton states: "It will take nothing short of a Nurmi to beat Itoae for the individual honours. He is running better to-day than when. Bailey defeated him in Australia two years ago." Of Heffer it is stated that this runner has improved since the provincial championships. Without mishap, much is expected of him on Saturday, and there cannot be any doubt, going the way he is at present, he will run a great race. Another Wairarapa runner, Keats, is to compete for individual honours next Saturday.
During the progress of the race next Saturday the competitors will pass the stand on four occasions, and they will be in view for the greater portion of the journey of 6j- miles.
