BROTHERS IN THE FLEET ENTERTAINED

During the visit of the American fleet to Wellington a number of members of local lodges of the 1.0.0. F., N.Z., visited the U.S. hospital ship Relief, and ■were welcomed by members of the Orderin the ship's company (Bros. Koldin, Plassil, Sawyer, Hall, Smith, Edge, Kraner, Bassinger, and Wraughton), the party being entertained at luncheon by Bros. Plassil and Koldin. The visitors were conducted over the hospital ship, whose most complete equipment was fully demonstrated by their fraternal escorts, A social and dance was held in the Heretaunga Hall, Petone esplanade, last Tuesday, by Heretaunga, No. 115 (Petone), Bellevue, No. 126 (Lower Hutt), and Star of Petone Rebekah, No. 45, T.0.0.F., N.Z., lodges in honour of members of the Order in the American fleet. _ About 500 attended, including, over eighty naval guests, members of kindred lodges and other friendly societies, and the Mayor (Mr. W. T. Strand) and Mayoress of Lower Hutt. The music was supplied by_ Allen's Orchestra, Brri. E. Gold and his Hawaiian Oixhestra playing the extras. A most enjoyable time was spent, great praise being due to the joint committee from the three lodges concerned for their organisation. Supper called for six relays, and during the last sitting Heretaunga Lodge, No. 115, took the opportunity of celebrating its first anniversary, Bro. J. \V. Pearson, N.G., presiding. He tendered the thanks of the two male lodges to Star of Petone Rebekah Lodge, No. 45, for its splendid assistance, although that, lodije had been formed less than a month previously. Fraternal greetings were tendered by Sister J. M. Goss, N.G., Sister I. Cole, P.N.G., Bro. Breese (of the fleet), and other visiting members. It was decided that the Aberican flag adorning the cake should be preserved" for use on future occasions in commemoration of the visit of the American brothers. Several social functions were held by members of the 1.0.0. F., N.Z., in honour of brothers from the visiting fleet. A dance was held in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall last "Wednesday evening by Southern Cross, No. 24 (City), Rose of Wellington Rebekah, No. 38, and Maraenui, No. 124 (Miramar) Lodges, 1.0.0. F., N.Z., a large number of local members and friends and overseas brethren attending. A most enjoyable time_ was spent, and credit is • due to the joint committee for completeness of the arrangements. Music ,was provided by Allen's Band, and Mr. Deans acted as pianist, Bros. C. E. Culverwell (Southern Cross, No. 24) arid Rentier (Maraenui, No. 124) acted as.M.C.'s. During the evening items were rendered by Mrs. . Maud Allen and Messrs. Broekensbira and Wilkinson. A dance was held in St. Thomas's Schoolroom, Newtown, last Thursday evening, by Zealandia. No. 48, Wilding, No. iO7, and Victoria Rebekah, No. 2 .Lodges, 1.0.0. F., N.Z. There was ■» large attendance of members and friends, and also a strong contingent of brethren from the American fleet. A most enjoyable time was spent, the arrangements reflecting credit on the N.G.s (Sister F. Barrowman and Bros. A. V. Wills and D. Wallis) and their officers. Bro. H. A. Hardham, P.G., P.G.Reg., acted as M.C. 'In addition to these entertainments members of the fleet who are brothers of,,..the .Order- were "the enests of the District Lodge the' previous week on the occasion of the welcome to the Grand Master. , Greetings between the countries were exchanged and a pleasant evening spent.
