A GRIEVOUS WRONG
A petition was presented to Parliament yesterday on behalf of Maata- Mahupuku Asher, of Wellington, praying Parliament to^ remedy a grievous wrong said to have been done to her in respect to the alleged w.rongful and illegal action of H. Stratton Izard in getting possession of and misapplying £16,000 in the purchase of certain land in which petitioner had a life interest. The petition states that Izard became bankrupt after he had used the money for his own purposes. Petitioner asked that the Government, which it is stated paid out the money to Izard instead of to the proper trustee, should pay the £16,000 to the Native Trustee, and also pay her the income she would have received had the money been lawfully paid-. Assuming that the money had earned interest at 5 per cent., the income would amount to £26,441.
