CARPENTERS' WORKING WEEK

A strike occurred among th« carpenters 'at Canberra, the hew Federal capital, owing to the men employed on on* of the hotels being compelled to work . forty-eight hours- a week; Six huHdi red carpenters are out. * The Chief Commissioner informed tile men that they would be paid off unleM they resumed work, with- the result that several hundred left the works. | The 1 general secretary of all the union* at Canberra subsequently stated that unleisn the carpenters were reinstated, and granted the forty-four-honr week, the members of all the other unions employed at the Federal capital would ba called out..
