TUNNEL PLANS
TO BE COMPLETED AT ONCE.
In accordance with notice of motion ■ (over the name of Councillor Monteith), Councillor Semple moved at last evening's meeting of the City Council: "That it be an instruction to the City Engineer to have thA plans completed for the tunnel through Mount Victoria at an early date, and also to place his estimate for the work before the council." The mover said there was no doubt that this work was' apressing_ need. The citizens had approved it in 1920, and the time had arrived when the council should proceed with the preliminary work, such as the plans, and construction at the earliest possible moment. Councillor Monteith had been called away from the meeting and had asked him to bring the matter forward on his behalf. Councillor R. Huggins said that the matter concerned 17,000 citizens, _ and there was now no division of t opinion among the people concerned. The Mayor said that a good deal of the work had been done. There was no harm in putting the resolution through, as they all agreed it was work that should be done. The motion was unanimously carried.
