IMPORTANT PROPOSAL'S
TO GIVE OUTLET VIA HU NTER STREET.
Important street-widening proposals were before the City Counci'i last evening. / . . . The Finance Committee re commended: That the portion of Huntur street between Customhouse quay .'and Lambton quay be widened to 66ft, the necessary widening to take place on the southern side of the slireet. In answer to a question by Councillor Monteith, the Mayor said tha* 4/ permit had been askei-1 for materially ko increase the height of a building facing Hunter street. By allowing the permit -to go through would rmake the cost larger. Was it necessary in the interests of tl|e Wellington of the future to widen Hunter street —the .test outlet from Lsmbton quay? Personally, he thought it would be a wise couise, for the longer the thing was left the worse things woud get. He could not give an estimate of the cost. The land would be taken under the Public Works Act. It was for the council .to decide. Councillor Semple said that in the interests of the city the job should h& done.
