PERSONAL MATTERS
The Roy. H. Van Staveren has returned to Wellington after spending three months in the Whangarei district '*> Colonel C. J. Smith, 0.8. E., returned to Wellington this morning by the Maori from Lyttelton. Mr. A. Varney, general secretary of the New Zealand V.M.C.A., reached Wellington yesterday on his return from the Pan-Pacific Conference at Honolulu. The Hon. G. J. Anderson left for Auckland by the Limited last evening. He opened the Auckland Winter Exhibition this afternoon, and' will probably return to Wellington to-morrow morning. Colonel J. J. Essori, C.M.G., who recently retired from the position of Secretary of the Treasury, is accompanying Messrs. P. H. Cox and W. J. Poison abroad on their mission to inquire into the question of agricultural banking. The Hon. A. D. M'Leod is to leaye on Monday for Pahiatua, where he will deliver a speech in the evening. The Minister probably will proceed to Palmerston North on the same night and return to Wellington on Tuesday.
