The births in England and Wales during the quarter ended 30th June totalled 187,000, equal to the lowest birth rate recorded in any second quarter except in I the war years 1917-19. The births comprised 95,000 males and 91,000 females. t Tho deaths numbered 112,000, which is .01 per 1000 below that of the second quarter last year. The deaths comprised 58,000 males and 54,000 females. Tho [ infant mortality was 66 per 1000, equal to the lowest rate recorded in any second quarter.
