MAORI WOMEN
AND EUROPEAN CANDIDATES.
It is not proposed, states the' Prime Minister, to submit any amending legislation this session to enable a Maori woman legally married to a- British subject to be enrolled and vote for a European '"candidate at any election. In the Houso of Representatives yesterday Mr. Coates informed Mr. T. W. "Rhodes (Thames) that Maoris under the existing law have representation of their own, and the. case of a, Maori woman marrying a European is mil. analogous to a foreign woman marrying a Briiish subject. A foreign woman has no vote unless she marries a British subject, bui. a Maori woman remains a.Maori woman nothwithstanding tlio fart of her marriage to a European, and is entitled to vote for a Maori representative iv Parliament. /
