The interprovincial football match today between • Southland , and South- Canterbury was played in fine /weather on a slightly heavy ground, and in the-pre-sence of a large number of spectators. Southland had the advantage in weight, and dominated the..play ,in; the':'.tight work, but the final score. Southland .27 and South Canterbury 11,/ is not » tru« indication b! tha plky, though Southland were undoubtedly the- superior teim. Southland had the better combination, which resulted in finished movement*, while South Canterbury's efforts lacked finish. Time after time the latter were on. the point of scoring, but only crossed the line tjjree times, while" Southland got over on'nine occasions, though none of the tries was converted. South Canterbury's defence was weak, and they failed to.score in the first half, but improved later. The half-time score was Southland 15, South Canterbury 0. In the second spell Southland notched four additional tries, while South Canterbury got across three times, converting once.
