TO-DAY'S BUSINESS

To-day will probably bo a fairly busy ono in the House of Representatives.Formal business and discussions on reports will no doubt occupy tbc afternoon, / and the evening will be devoted to consideration of Bills in Committee, the list including the. Massey Burialground, Nurses and Midwives Registration, Rotorua Borough Amendment, National Provident Fund Amendment, Housing Amendment, and Mutual Fire Insurance Amendment. The Nurses and Midwives Registration, and the National Provident Fund Amendment Bills may prove contentious in Committee, as certain features of both measures were debated at some length on the second reading. So far as the first-mentioned Bill is concerned, several 'members will probably require to be assured before they agree to its passage that, the- clause empowering the transfer of State maternity hospitals to the control of hospital boards will not mean any increase in hospital rates. The National Provident Fund Amendment Bill is designed to give power to hospital boards to brim; employees within the scope of the fund, but during the second-reading debate it was stated by some members that it does not .make provision for nurses, so it is likely that that aspect will be raised again in the Committee stage.
