HUTT MUNICIPAL BAND
]n connection with a bazaar which the Lower Hutt Band is organising in an endeavour to clear the debt off instruments, a well-attended, enthusiastic meeting of bandsmen and lady-helpers was held last week. Mr. Clendon attended as a delegate from the Lower Hutt Progress League, and stated that his society was prepared to give the band every assistance possible, conditional on the band vesting the instruments in the Lower Hutt Borough Council, it was recognised that the baud was a good asset to the district, and should not be handicapped by'this debt of £400 any .longer. The chairman, in thanking Mr. Clendon for his encouraging remarks, stated tlmat tho band whs an incorporated society, and that in the event of the band disbanding all property would be handed to i-lie Lower Flutt Borouarh Council for the use of a band fur all time. The average resident, unfortunately, wag not nwkrc of this arrangement, and an dfort should ha made to secure an acknowledgment from the local council, and have the band instruments included as assets of the borough. The secretary reported that the "Petone Benefit Entertainers" had consented 'to give a benefit concert at Lower Hutt at an early date in aid of the band's bazaar fund. The Borough Council \vrules granting permission, for the lmnd to give :i sacred concert on Sunday. 30Ui August. 11 was decided to hold the bazaar in October in the King George Theatre, and endeavour to iivrange a "wind-up" carnival on the Recreation pround tlie following Saturday. Sir. G Weir was appointed bazaar secretary.
