A STADIUM AND SPORTS GROUNDS

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—l have been approached by several Wellington residents as to our intentions regarding our new t.school grounds, and what we intend to do about the suggestion from our committee, that Exhibition buildings, stadium, and general sports grounds should take the place of the area between the school grounds and Frederick street. The members of the Mount Cook School Old Scholars' Association are working in conjunction with the Mount Cook School Committee .to lay out the four acres of land secured by the board as an up-to-date playground. We intend to send a deputation to the Winter Exhibition Committee at an early date, and call a representative meeting of all business people, sports bodies, bands, and the general public to go into the matter. We recognise that in the interests of the business people, general sports, and the public. at large, that it is about time something was done to cater for our own people, and attract others to our city. ■ Things havo been dormant in this respect for some years now. When one looks at the number of people who leave our city at Christmas, New Year, and Easter time for Auckland and other towns in New Zealand in search of pleasure, it seems to us that something should be done to entertain our own people, and-to attract visitors to .our city at holiday times. We ask the cooperation of all business people, epovts bodies, and the general public. A large meeting should be called as soon as possible, when the pros and cons can be gone into, and a representative committee be appointed to put the matter in hand.—l am, etc.,

M. HYLAND, President Mount Cook School Old

Scholars' Association.
