"JUMP SHORT PIE."
Tho following story it told of th» author of the "Ingoldsby Legends":— Barhara, who was fond of inviting friends to dinner, invariably in Bpring offered thorn what he was pleased to call "Jump Short Pie." "Why do you so name it ?" a guest asked one day.
"You see," replied the host, "the lambs feed on a steep slope at the bottom of which is a wide ditch. The animals rush' down tho hill and jump. Some jump short and are drowned. Will you have just a little more Jump Short Pie, sir?"
