TECHNICAL COLLEGE CONCERT.
The pupils of the Wellington Technical College gave their annual concert on Thursday and Friday evenings last to crowded audiences in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, the proceeds being in aid of the gymnasium fund. The programme included scenes from the Pickwick Papers and from "Much Ado About Nothing." The young performers had entered heartily into the humour of Dickens and made- a strong appeal to fche audience, the representation of Mr. Pickwick, Mr. Perker, Miss Wardle, and the Fat Boy being particularly effective. The Shakespearean performance made great demands on the young players, but they gave m very creditable interpretation, E. Foster as Benedick, K. Bartosh as Beatrice, and J. Whiteman as Hero being worthy of special mention. "Sigh No More, Ladies" was sung by E. Birrell, who, together with J. Whiteman, M. Colledee, and T. Baigent, had previously delighted the audience with Tosti's "Venetian Song," Schubert's "Cradle Song," and Tlofmarm's "Barcarolle," sung n» double duets. A country sceno entitled May -Pay, consisting of songs, dances, and humorous dialogue, contributed much to the brightness of the evening. Miss Winnie Cooley and Mr. Dawkins were the accompanists, the piano being kindly lent by The Bristol Piano Co. The students of the home science department were responsible for making nearly the whole of the costumes used for the Shakespearean rand country scenes, while members of the art department gave valuable help with the properties, and make-up.
