ROAD AND RAIL BLOCKED
HEAVY WEATHER IN CANTERBURY
TRAFFIC DISORGANISED.

CHRISTCHURCH, 7th August.
Snow is falling in the hill districts, •nd mo»t of the main roads aro ■ under water, The Oust River has overflowed, and others are expected to do so before ■orning. Owing to wash-outs on the railways, due to rivers overflowing, railway traffic is disorganised. The West Coast train, due at 5.5 p.m., has not yet put in an appearance owing to a washout on the other side of Rolleston, while another at Burnham has put the South line out of commission. It is expected that the express will get through tomorrow, but no early morning goods trains will be dispatched. There is also a wash-out at Springston, and Southbridge is cut off. To-morrow trains on the Midland lins will not get beyond Springfield. The line at Rolleston and between Burnham and Norwood is also under water.
A telephone message, received tonight, says there is two feet of snow at Otira, • and 18 inches at Cass.
