PRISONER SENTENCED

WANGANUI, This Day. Alfred Thompson, who eeciped from gaol.and was recaptured the same day, was sentenced to twelve months' .hard labour this morning, to !jc accumulative on 'the sentence he is now serving of one month and twelve month's' reformative detention.
Mr, A. J. Kearns,' who resides on tho east side of the Hutt Pipe Bridge was run down by a motor-ear near Lever Bros.' works last evening, 'when lie was proceeding; liomp. on his bicycle. He was badly bruised, and tlio bicycle was smashed. The owner of the car removed Mr. -Reams to his home. Messrs. R. A.'Rose and E. X ■ Heffer, j who were chosen to represent the Wei- | • lington province at tho New Zealand Cross-country Ciiampionsln'p Meeting, havo definitely- decided not to compete. Mr. and. Mrs. W. T. Grundy, of Mas-, ferton, expect to leave England at tho end of October on tutu 1 return to New Zeakud,.
