LONDON, sth August. The Bank of England discount rate has been reduced to 4£ per cent.

LONDON, 6th August. The reduction of the bank rate, which is due to the satisfactory gold position, was very unexpected. The Stock Exchange and markets all round are improving.
The Bank of England discount rate stood at 3 per cent, from 13th July, 1922, until sth July, 1923, when it was advanced to 4 per cent., and so continued until sth March, 1925, when it was raised to 5 per cent. The latest reduction announced would indicate a slight decline in the price of money.
