FAMOUS ADMIRAL'S PENSION. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPIRIOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN-NET ZEALAND CASH ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 4th August. It was announced in the House of Commons that the Rodney perpetual pension was commuted in January by the payment of £42,000 to the great great grandson of the famous Admiral. . Admiral Baron Rodney, who wag born in 1718 and died in 1792, crowned his naval career, which had been remarkably successful, by defeating a Wrench fleet, under de Grasse, off Dominica, on 12th April, 1782. This victory saved Jamaica and ruined tlie French naval prestige. Within two years, as he wrote at the time, he had "tsken two Spanish, one French, and one Dutch Admirals." He was rewarded with unbounded honour, including the title of the barony, and the pension of £2000 a year.
