Some amusement was oaused at Lowestoft Town Council meeting a few days ago, when the Town Clerk read a letter from a man in Wellington, addressed to the Mayor, asking Mr. Barnard if he would find a respectable young woman, as the writer was looking for a wife. The writer said he had been stationed, in Lowestoft as a stoker in H.M.S. Havelock during the war, and that he liked the town immensely. Major Humphrey ; "I move that the matter be left in the hands of the Mayor." The Mayor : "Do you agree to that, Mrs. Harris?" (Laughter.)
