supervising. The B team match with Hutt proved rather disappointing, owing to the latter not shooting up to their usual standard. Aotea won by 19 "pointa. The shooting during each week is still as keen as ever, and the next interclul) match against Hutt promises to bo very keen. At present all members are preparing for the annual ball, which takes place on the 17th August, in the Heretaunga Hall, Esplanade, Petone. PUBLIC SERVICE CLUB. The official opening of the P.S.M.E.C. took place on Thursday evening •on the range in the V.M.C.A. . There was a large muster of members, including a good, sprinkling of ladies. The club captain, Mr! L. T. Kawson, welcomed the president (Mr. John Caughley), and assured him of the loyal and wholei hearted support of the club. In the absence of the patron, the Hon. J. G. Coates, who wrote regretting exceedingly that he was not able to be present, the president was called upon to declare the range open. Mr. Cauehley, who ivas greeted with much applause, •eaid that in the old rifle days ho was an enthusiastic shot, and was pleased to have the opportunity of joining up onco ' more. Mr. Caughley stated that it was very pleasing to see such a club formed ii. the service, as the departmental clubs only permitted the members of their staffs to meet the same fellow-workers on social grounds, whereas a club such as the P'.S.M.R.C. permitted the intermingling of members' of the service, and members met those to whom they wrqte memoranda and whom they had never met. Mr. Caughley then said that it gave him much, pleasure to declare tho range open. Mr. Caughley then fired the first shot of the official club season, and registered a " bull, dead centre." The result of the opening match was as follows: — President's team : Mrs. Potts, Misses M. E. Aubrey, Phillips, Breda, Messrs. Fowler wrote regretting that owing to pressure of time he was unable to accept the office of vice-presi-dent, but added: "My best wishes for its success are with the club, and enclosed herewith a cheque for £2 2s, hoping that your committee will accept it, as an aid to the funds oE ;the club."
