(raoH ons own cormsfondent.) :\ NELSON, 3rd August, ' A very large attendance;at the.Paramount Theatre on Saturday evening to witness the production of the cornedy 1 in four acts entitled "A Modern -Minx." The writer of the comedy, Mrs. Mon- , crieff. took the name part of- the play herself. Other parts were taken by.MrsJ; . Moynohan and Misses Nevin, TomlinBon, O'Etara, Smith, and Hayes. 'AH the parts were excellently taken, and the audience, was most enthusiastic and appreciative. The comedy Was. staged under the distinguished, patronage of Lady Alice Ferjjusaon, and was in aid , of the Girl' Guide funds... After the first act, Lady Alice eulogised the work of the Girl Guides, and expressed the hope that all those present were enjoying the play as much a* she was. Prior to the performance, Mr». Tillyard, president of the Nelson Girl Guides' Association, explained the purposes to which the proceeds were to be devoted. It was proposed to send. eighteen .girls to the Dunedin Exhibition to,take,part in a gathering there', and-also to make a donation to headquarters at Auckland, which had done «o much to assist Nelson. The comedy is to be atagCd again on Tuesday evening to benefit the funds of the Boy Scouts' Association. His Excellency the Governor-General had a full day on Saturday. After attending the civic reception, inspecting" the Boy Scouts and Girl Guide* and visiting the Publio Hospital and Cawthron Institute, he attended-a-civie lun* cheon at the Commercial Hotel., Later in the afternoon he was taken for a drive to the reservoir and other places of interest near the city, being accompanied by _ Lady Alice. Fergusson and the remainder of the Vice-Regal party In the evening the Governor-General was present at the annual reunion of the Returned Soldiers' Association; On" Mon, day morning His Excellency visited the ' Boys' and Girls' Colleges; and in ths afternoon went to the various orphanages in the city.
