CITY COUNCIL MEETING- • ('BOH OCR OWN CORRISPONDINT.) - ■- ' 'NELSON, "lit August. The fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held on Friday evening, ..all being present, the Mayor (Mr. William Look) presiding. , The complaint of A.' Ercolano of soot from the electric power station was referred to the electrical; .engineer to report. Besidents of Mill street repeated their request for drainage. The.engineer attached a memo stating the area was not included in the loan schedule. After a discussion concerning a statement made at the time "the proposals were submitted that the work would be done, the Mayor said that in view of the council's previous resolution that the work could not he done, to "alter this would require a notice of motion. Councillor Gibbs said that he would >■ giva notice to rescind. ' Several other matters arising from the correspondence were referred to the committee. ■ The Baths Committee recommended that the proposed baths- be tepid, covered in, and provided with a children's paddling pool and sufficient accommodation for a caretaker in accordance with a, plan submitted by the city engineer, ihe report was unanimously adopted; and the engineer instructed to prepare estimates and call for-tenders.' In answer to a question by Councillor Nightingale, the engineer said. the' work Of construction could be completed in ten weeks. . . ",......- The .engineer's report for the fortnight ended on the 31st July detailed work done and in hand, and stated that building permits had been issued as follow :—New dwellings 6, £5224 • repairs dwellings 12, £591; new business premises 1, £75; repairs business' premises 3, £160; repairs institutions 1,. *ui7. t • The electrical engineer submitted a special report on the plant and estimated cost of additional plant ■ required•• This was referred to the committee. •■♦ .
