AMERICAN FLEET PAY
GOLD WILL AGAIN CIECULATE,
It is not expected that sailors visiting New Zealand in the American Fleet will have much American money left to spend. They are being paid in sterling in Australia. The general currency in America is paper, but arrangements have been made between the United States Government and the Commonwealth Treasury to pay the men in Aus-ti-alia in British currency. In New Zealand the tanks -will accept dollars at the equivalent of 4s and cents at 3d. For the convenience of the public who may be tendered American coins during the visit of the fleet, it may be stated that the approximate exchange value of different amounts is as follows :—
As many of th.j men will have been paid in sovereigns this now unfamiliar coin may again find its way into temporary circulation in Wellington and Auckland.
