' The weather was fine for the Wel-< lington provincial cross-country championship, which was held at Hutt Park on Saturday, over a course of 10,000 metres. Several hundred spectators viewed tho race. . ' " The course started at tho three-fur-long post, and after doing two rounds of the race track, the trail led across tho surrounding country, • striking the track again at the north-west corner. Aftei' again passing the stand the runners again left the track at the three-furlong post, completing another lap across the country. The course was in good order. The following teams competed:— Brooklyn, Hutt Valley, Masterton, Olympic, Scottish, and Wellington. In addition, six runners from Wanganul started as individual competitors. Eighty-two runners faced the starter, and passing the stand the first ,'timo the field was well bunched, Vith T). Todd to the front. The second time round tho track Todd was still to the front, with Heffer, Rose, and Kent in close attendance. AfLcr leaving the race track- Rose went to tho front, with Todd close behind. At this stage the field was well strung out. Rose was> the first to reach the track again, closely followed by Heffer and Todd, and passing the stand Rose was leading by 100 yards from. Heffer, -with Todd 20 yards away. The next to pass were Kent, M'Kee, Silver, Newton (Wanga-' nui), Dome, Tipton, Watson, and Keats. Rose increased his lead over the second half of the journey, ultimately winning by about 350 yards. Todd * and Heffer were running together half a mile from home, but Todd opened out and secured second place with IQQ yards to spare. Kent and M'Kce, who were a quarter of a mile behind, provided a'good finish. M'Kee staggered and fell, leaving Kent to secure fourth place. Detailed results are as follow:— R. A.
