OTAGO RETAINS TROPHY AGAINST SOUTHLAND. (er TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) INVERCARGILL, Ist August. I In tho presence of about a thousand spectators at tfie Show Grounds this afternoon, and under ideal weather conditions, Southland played Otago for the Peter Dawson Cup, the game being a draw, each side scoring two goals. Both teams were evenly matched, and a good exhibition of Soccer was the outcome. Southland won the toss and played with the sun. Play travelled up and downfield, and it was not until the spell was well advanced that Watkins notched the first goal for Otago. Shortly afterwards E. | Cook equalised the scores. Play in the i second half was much faster and more . spectacular. Cook again scored for the home side, about half-way through the spell. Otago, in the dying stages, again became aggressive, and a passing rush i ended in M'Tavish equalising, and enabling Otago to retain the troimy.
