WATER AND DRAINAGE
FOR ONSLOW AND KARORI.
The report of the Engineer in Charge of Waterworks and Drainage (Mr. J. M. Morice) as to progress made with loan works during the month of June states that considerable headway has been made in all branches pf his department's works, . though in some instances delay has been caused by the long spell of bad weather. The laying of 14 miles of water mains and the building of the 400,000 gallon reservoir for Onslow, he states, are completed, and of the 23 miles of sewer required for the drainage system for the district 639 chains have been completed, the length laid during June being 42£ chains. Both septic tanks are completed, and the sewer is being laidtowards Khandallah. With the exception of a. short length between Donald and Duthie streets, the whole of the 13 miles of water main for the Karori supply is installed. Bad weather delayed the construction of the main Teservoir (400,000 gallons), but the walls are within a few feet of the top. A 50,000 gallon service reservoir is also to fee built. Of the 20 miles of sewer to be laid, 624 chains are in position and the septic tank is completed. i The concrete lining of the main I Orongnrongo tunnel has extended in a distance of 4100 feet, the actual distance lined (much of Hie tunnel roof and sides being sound without lining) being 1588 feet.
