"PLOT IN THE CABINET"

BALDWIN MINISTRY MENACED,

LONDON, 21st July.

, The "Morning Post's" political correspondent says Mr. Churchill is reported to be stubbornly against the laying down of more than two cruisers this year, and two or three next year. It is generally- believed that if he is supported by Mr. Baldwin the resignation of Mr. W. O. Bridgeman, the Fird Lord, and the Board of Admiralty, will follow. The "Post," in an editorial headed "Plot in the Cabinet," says:_"lt is impossible to suppose that either Mr. Churchill or his allies care very much whether live of fifty cruisers, or none, are ordered, but if Mr. Bridgeman can be forced to tesign the credit of Mr. Baldwin's Ministry will receive a deadly blow, and events might be so guided that Mt. Baldwin himself would resign, in which case a coalition would again be forced on the country. The "Post" editorial expressed the opinion that Mr. Baldwin will uphold Mr. Bridgeman, as the Prune Minister cannot possibly contemplate the dangerous weakening of the Navy.

The ships demanded by the Admiralty aro cruisers of the largest type permitted by the Washington Naval Agreemen, Britain's strength in "capital ships"-—battleships or battlo-cruisers, carrying the largest gun 3 and heavily armoured, is regulated by the strength of the other great naval Powers. In regard to cruisers, tho Treaty does not impose limits, except as to maximum size {10,000 tons), and maximum calibre of guns (8 Inches)
