THE 44 HOURS WEEK

MANUFACTURERS' OPPOSITION,

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPXRIOHT.)

(Received 22nd July, 12,30 p.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day. In an open letter to tho Premier, the executive of-the Chamber of Manufacturers urges that the adoption of the forty-four hour week must inevitably bring loss to the workers in diminished employment, to the public in increased costs of commodities, and to the manufacturer and the State in the decreased possibilities of expansion in industry. It suggests that New South Wales should postpone the introduction of the shortened week till the other States of the Commonwealth are ready to take similar action.
