A DRUNKEN DRIVER
MOTORIST'S LICENSE SUSPENDED.
(II TttJOIMPH.—PRESS ASSOCUTIOH.)
CHRISTCHURCH, 21st July.
"I always regard these ca-ses as very serious, because our traffic is almost entirely motor, fast moving and dangerous if not properly regulated. A drunken man in a vehicle neither gives nor regards signals, and his presence too often leads to accidents. This case has some peculiar features that make it difficult to know what to do," said Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in suspending the license of Denis Benjamin O'Callaghan, carrier, for one month, and fining him £5 for lieing drunk while in charge of a motor-lorry. The unusual features referred to were that O'Callaghan is the f'j.her of ten children, ranging in age from 12 months to 20 years. He is usually abstemious and of good repute, and the major part of his income is derived from carrying work done for a local firm. '
