Webster Nash, foimerly on the staff of the Wellington Hospital, and who left New, Zealand for London in January last,'has been appointed re»ident medical officer of the Pinner Hospital, Middlesex. Dr. Nash is ,a son of Mr. J. A. Nash,, M.P., Falmerston North.' • ', Last week-the staff of the British General Electric Company, Ltd., presented Mr. F. H. Grear with a nilyer cigarette box on the occasion of leaving the firm. Mr. H. E. TayloT, in eulogising Mr. Greair's services, stated on behalf of the staff that he hoped that Mr. Grear would be as successful in his new sphere as he was with the company. A large gathering of business men farewelled Mr. W. Doherty, assistant Sydney manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, who is retiring after 34 years' service with the company, states a cable messag* from Sydney. Mr. Doherty was presented with testimonials by a committee of shipping men and by the company. • The death occurred in Wellington last week of Mr. Charles Physick, a wellknown New Zealand sportsman. The later. Physick was born at Tayistock, Devon (Eng.), in 1848. He arrived in the Dominion on 20th. June, 1874, by the Atrato, the first direct steamer to touch New Zealand. A prominent owner and trainer of trotting horses, he rode the first Ashburton Cup winner, Byjoe. He also trained ' Daddy Longlegs, the Grand National winner, and was the owner of the trotter Bismark. Before coming to New Zealand he rode for Field-Marshal Lord French (then General French) in England. The' late Mr. Physick wail well known a3 one of the South Island's leading walkers. The funeral, which took place on ' Monday, was attended by a large gathering of "his friends.
