Following a guarantee of safety and protection from the Provincial Govern- | ment, the main Customs House and the wharf at Canton have been reopened. It is understood that German merchante | urged this action. The merchants reopened their offices against the advice of the Consul, the Germans wearing an armband worded in German.; (It appears that the level-headed are ready to settle matters diplomatically, rather than by demonstrations. The Empress of Asia has sailed for Canada, with a crew composed of university wardens, undergraduates, and. waitresses. A Scoutmaster is in charge of the cabin bell-boys.
